I AM IN THE MARKET FOR A NEW JERKBAIT ROD AND REEL AND AM NOT SURE OF THE ROD LENGTH OR REEL TYPE. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT THE ST CROIX PREMIER SERIES, 6 FOOT HEAVY ACTION. THE RECENT ARTICLES IN MUSKY HUNTER ARE TALKING ABOUT USING A 6'9" ROD OR LONGER. I CAN SEE THE ABILITY TO HANDLE LARGE FISH WITH THE ROD, HOWEVER I AM CONCERNED ABOUT "SLAPPING" THE WATER ON THE DOWN STROKES WORKING JERKBAITS. WHAT HAS BEEN PEOPLES EXPERIENCE WITH THESE LONG RODS? IS 6' LONG ENOUGH. THE REEL I AM LOOKING AT IS THE SHIMANO CALCUTA 50 REEL. EVERYTHING I HEAR ABOUT THIS REEL IS GREAT. IS THERE ANYTHING BAD ABOUT THIS REEL? WHAT DO PEOPLE SUGGEST FOR A ROD AND REEL COMBO FOR JERKBAIT FISHING?
