4/7/99 Fishing Report for Tarpon Springs to Crystal River, Fl. By Capt. Dennis Royston
A FULL TIME FISHING GUIDE
Spring has sprung ! The weather today was clear and sunny, with a worm 86 degrees. The forecast for the remainder of the week looks to be the same.
Take your pick With the water on the flats up to 76 degrees all the fish are eating. Snook are around the points and outer channels.
Redfish have been in short supply, but when you find them they will take a jig spoon or live bait. We did not catch many Reds this week, but the ones that we did catch were large. Most were over the 27 slot limit.
Trout have been providing steady action anywhere you find good grass. The best areas have sand holes mixed with the grass. Look for Trout in water as shallow as 1 foot in the early morning and as the sun gets higher move out to 3 to 6. Best fishing has been when there was a light wind putting a light ripple on the surface.
Live bait (Pilchards) have shown all up and down the coast. From small to jumbo can be had with a little work. All this week I have had a live well full of choice baits, however jigs actually produced more fish.
Offshore I have been told that King and Spanish are providing plenty of action around the artificial reefs and any other good hard bottom. The winds are forecast to be light tomorrow and I will be fishing 2 Montana Trout drift boat guides on a bus mans holiday. We will be heading offshore to look for some kings. Good fishin
