2/8/2000 Fishing Report for Tarpon Springs to Crystal River, Fl. By Capt. Dennis Royston

A FULL TIME FISHING GUIDE

The weather was cold last weekend. Temperatures down to the upper 20s and wind from the north. We are in a warming trend for the up-coming weekend. It is forecast to be in the upper 70s.

As the cold fronts moved through the fish left the inshore flats and retreated into the rivers and around the power plants. Large numbers of Spanish Mackerel and Pompano moved into the waters around the Anclote power plant. Waders as well as boat anglers were catching limit stringers of Mack's. The more experienced anglers had good catches of Pompano and catch and release Trout.

As the water warms the fish will slowly move back out on to the flats again. Jigs or jigs tipped with small pieces of shrimp are out producing live bait(shrimp).

In the rivers Snook are hitting trolled Rattle Traps and cast root beer colored jigs. Mangrove Snapper and Sheeps Head are a good bet with cut shrimp fished on the bottom.
