B-Fast's inshore light-tackle and fly fishing went into high gear this week. Bill Barnett from St. Louis, MO fished Boston Harbor and South Shore Tuesday-Thursday this week. The wind and rain didn't damper Bill's enthusiasm nor the stripers feeding activity. Tuesday and Wednesday the inner-harbor provided consistent action with fish from 20-28 inches. Chartreuse half & halfs and herring patterns in 3/0 to 4/0 fished on 300-400 grain DepthCharge line matched the herring and silverside baitfish. Top-water sliders and gurglers worked well with the breaking fish. Over the weekend, I met, Mark Strickland from Boston,MA at Rowe's Wharf on Boston's waterfront. We were into fish immediately at Castle Island and and Spec. Light-tackle rubber bait Fin-S and sassy-shad worked well for the non-flyfishers. We found another big school working bait off George's Island later in the day. On Sunday, Dave Moore (Waltham,MA) and friend MarvinParramore, owner of Touchstone Construction from Wayland, were into the bass immediately from Boston Light all the way into Peddock's. Marvin's first fly casting lesson proved fruitful. In an hour, he was as casting the 9 wgt. Trident/Vortex combo 70 feet and managed to land his first 28 inch bass on a fly.
