Bass in the Winter - Brady Borum (guest writer)

You know it may be that time of year you hate, but for most of us it comes around once a year. Its time to hang the fishing poles up and cover the boat for the winter.

But now after a recent study by a college in North Carolina bass maybe be easiest to catch in the winter if you can find them in the summer. The study was done in a large bay that the deepest point was about 20 ft. The team of biologist caught and radio tagged 11 bass.

The team starting observing the bass in late Oct. thru the following May. The team's studies and notes concluded that out of the 10 of the 11 bass stayed in the bay. The one that traveled outside the bay made sparatic trips in and out. but out of the 10, 8 of the bass showed limited activity, with the exception of feeding and stayed within a fairly close radius of where they were caught. This is to note that in about Feb the bass made trips out to a "shallow" bay and were observed fanning out nest. It was uncommon the team thought for the bass to be spawning that early but all of them returned to where they were caught.

Conclusion:

If we had some more studies done like this we could draw better conclusions of where fish are at and help us aid in the conservation of some of the most beautiful fish on the planet.

The next article I will be doing for EJ's fishing is on the very common, very uncommon to most but the trout's epidemic: Whirlings Disease. Without each and everyone of your help we may let this go to far and will destroy some of our most precious waters.

Goodbye and God Bless
