When Do I Fish For Pike?
Fishing for pike during the pre and post spawn seasons are the best shallow water fishing seasons for pike. We will elaborate more on this time period in the Fishing for Pike in the Pre and Post Spawn Seasons section.
During the summer, pike will tend to move deeper, depending on the water's temperature. Small pike will usually stay in the shallows (about 1-4 feet), feeding on minnows, frogs, tadpoles, and anything else they can get their mouths around. Medium sized pike (5-8 lbs.) tend to stay a little deeper (5-8 feet). And the larger pike (9 lbs. and up) are usually found in water 8-20 feet, or deeper. Use deeper diving crankbaits for fishing in this time period.
Fall is knows for its great pike fishing because they are stalking up for the coming of winter. They will be eating quite large baits, so don't be afraid to throw them lures most commonly used for muskie, such as The Believer, Mepps Giant Killers, and Suiks.
