When Do I Fish For Walleye?

Walleye have a tricky reputation of only biting early in the morning, in the evening, and at night. It is thought that during the day walleye can only be caught when it is overcast or windy. This is because walleye are extremely light sensitive. When it is overcast the light from the sun is reduced so the walleye tend to move into shallower water. When the water is wavy, known as the "Walleye Chop", the walleye also move into shallower water because the waves reduce the light intensity underwater. The reason that it is good to fish for walleye in these conditions is because their strike zones, the distance a fish will travel for it's meal, are larger than if it is bright and calm. This is a good general rule to follow, but, if you use the right lures, you can beat the odds by catching walleye on the brightest and most still days. We will specify these lures and their colors on the Lures and Baits we Suggest to Use section.
